Charter Oak is the legendary tree that is a symbol of American independence and we presume that before it fell in an 1856 storm, the Charter Oak's leaves turned colors in autumn.

National Cachetmakers Day

A presidential proclamation (by the president of the American First Day Cover Society) declared Saturday, August 17^th to be National Cachetmakers Day, and the Americover Station postmark reflects that. It's just a bit of whimsy.
