The art is from a lithograph by Nathaniel Currier, about 1855, shortly before he made Ives a partner in his company. The Dragon Cards cachet is printed on the envelope. First Day of Issue hand cancel. larger illustration (new window)...$4.00 Why just the two stamps on Dgn 523 and not all four Winter Fun stamps? Because only two designs were used by the USPS for the Winter Fun envelopes, and this Dragon "Card" (and we admit we're stretching the definition of "Card" on this issue, if not actually beating it to death) was originally conceived for just the envelopes. Then we decided to make them combos. |
