![]() First Day Cover U.S. Marine Band Dgn 860b $4.00 Sc. 6005 U.S. Marines on a 5"x7" Dragon Card showing a photo of the band from around 1920 to 1925. It is standing in front of the Library of Congress. The band was established in 1798. The pictorial postmark ties Sc. 880 Famous Americans/John Philip Sousa and Sc. 3153 "Stars & Stripes Forever." Sousa conducted the Marine Band from 1880 to 1892. He enlisted in the Marine Corps at the age of 13 as an apprentice musician and left 7 years later. Great for a music- or military-on-stamps collection! |
