Sc. 4980-1 Civil War - 1865 on a
5”x7” Dragon Card reproducing Richard Norris Brooke’s 1871 painting
“Furling The Flag.” It shows Confederate soldiers rolling up their flag
and preparing to depart from Appomattox Court House after the surrender
ceremony. The two 2015 Civil War stamps, plus 1995’s Jefferson Davis
(Sc. 2975f) and Abraham Lincoln (2975j) stamps are tied by the
first-day pictorial postmark for the surrender. Great for a Civil War-
or military-on-stamps collection!
