What a difference 17 years has made in low-cost printing techniques! Actually, the first full-color Dragon Cards were produced the following year, in 2000 (Dgn 97 Kids Sports). However, in 1999, we were still using one-color printing. Ink colors other than black were an extra $15 to $25. Using two ink colors cost twice as much as one. One way to add color to a Dragon Card without incurring additional expense was to use a cardstock color other than white. For the Celebrate the Century 1960s stamps (Star Trek, Martin Luther King, The Beatles, Moon Landing and Roger Maris' 61 home runs), I chose "psychedelic" colors.
Another change the new color printing techniques made was in minimum quantities: Before, at least 50 of a design had to be printed. I only wanted to service 25 of each of the CTC issues, so the additional cards were "put aside." Now, as few as one or two Dragon Cards can be printed for the basic price!
