Moss Hart was good friends with Cole Porter (Sc. 2550) and his crowd before Hart married, and collaborated with Porter on several shows: "Jubilee" (book, 1935), "The Man Who Came To Dinner" (1939; with Kaufman; one song by Porter); "Seven Lively Arts" (sketches, 1944).

With Irving Berlin (Sc. 3669), he participated in "Face The Music" (1932; book); "As Thousands Cheer" (1933; sketches), "Miss Liberty" (1949; fixed the book, directed)

"As Thousands Cheer" also was the show that made a star of black singer Ethel Waters (Sc. 2851) with white "downtown" audiences with the show-stopping and controversial song "Supper Time" about lynchings.

With Ira Gershwin (Sc. 3345) (and Kurt Weill) providing the music, he wrote and directed "Lady In The Dark" (1941). Hart also kept Ira company in the lobby of a Los Angeles hospital while brother George died in the operating room.

Edna Ferber (Sc. 3433) referred to Moss Hart as "the son I never had." They were close friends, except for one extended feud after they tried to collaborate on a play.
