    Dgn 141a: Sc. 3669 Irving Berlin — 5"x7" Dragon Card "Friends and Colleagues:" Older photo of Berlin, and stamps representing some of his many friends and colleagues: Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Lorenz Hart, George and Ira Gershwin, George Gershwin (who was turned down for a job by Berlin as too talented), Victor Herbert, Dorothy Parker, George M. Cohan. The criterion was people whom Berlin actually knew, either socially or professionally. (Berlin was a peripheral member of the Algonquin Round Table, of which Parker was a member. She and artist Neysa McMein took Berlin to Atlantic City for a weekend shortly after his first wife died.)     Opportunity missed: Berlin liked Bing Crosby's rendition of "White Christmas," but detested Elvis Presley's so much that he had his staff call radio stations, asking them not to play it. I had stamps available for both Crosby and Presley. Rats!

Plus a Jerome Kern stamp: He was originally set to write the songs, but died suddenly shortly after work began.
